WORKING GROUP 2

Fiber Extraction Methods & Optimization

WG2 coordinates work to investigate and compare green extraction approaches—including microwave-assisted extraction, ultrasound-assisted extraction and natural deep eutectic solvent (NADES)-based systems—for processing the fiber sources identified by WG1. The group aims to optimize extraction conditions and assess extraction performance, environmental implications, scalability and economic feasibility in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Its outputs are intended to inform subsequent fiber characterization (WG3), bioactivity assessment (WG4), sustainability and regulatory evaluation (WG5), and the exploration of potential product applications (WG6).

Key Tasks (KT)

KT2.1: Develop green extraction methods

KT2.2: Assess scalability for industrial use

Key Activities (KA)

KA2.1: Pilot studies using MAE, UAE, NADES

KA2.2:  Lab-scale scalability trials

KA2.3: Industry collaboration for process refinement

KA2.4: Training School – Fiber Extraction Technologies

KA2.5: Workshop WS1 – Optimization (DoE, RSM, data analysis)
