WORKING GROUP 1
Fiber Source Identification & Feasibility Analysis
WG1 identifies high-potential food waste streams as raw materials for fiber extraction and evaluates their technical, environmental, and economic feasibility for industrial-scale applications. By building and maintaining a comprehensive fiber-source database, conducting feasibility analyses, and collaborating with industry stakeholders, WG1 ensures that the Action begins with sustainable, abundant, and commercially viable raw materials. This foundational work supports all downstream WGs, enabling efficient extraction, accurate characterization, and successful product development.
Key Tasks (KT)
KT1.1: Build and maintain a dynamic database of food waste fiber sources
KT1.2: Perform feasibility analyses (technical, economic, scalability)
KT1.3: Conduct preliminary sustainability assessments
Key Activities (KA)
KA1.1: Literature review + industry data collection
KA1.2: Prioritization and validation with industry stakeholders
KA1.3: Pilot feasibility studies
KA1.4: Development of a public web portal for database access
KA1.5: Organize Training School TS1 – Fiber Basics
