WORKING GROUP 1

Fiber Source Identification & Feasibility Analysis

WG1 coordinates the identification and prioritisation of food-processing by-product streams that may offer suitable fiber sources. By compiling a dynamic evidence base, conducting technical, environmental and economic feasibility analyses, and engaging industry stakeholders, the group aims to assess availability, variability, extraction potential, scalability and possible constraints. Its outputs are intended to guide source selection and provide an evidence base for subsequent extraction, characterization, sustainability and application studies across the other Working Groups.

Key Tasks (KT)

KT1.1: Build and maintain a dynamic database of food waste fiber sources

KT1.2: Perform feasibility analyses (technical, economic, scalability)

KT1.3: Conduct preliminary sustainability assessments

Key Activities (KA)

KA1.1: Literature review + industry data collection

KA1.2: Prioritization and validation with industry stakeholders

KA1.3: Pilot feasibility studies

KA1.4: Development of a public web portal for database access

KA1.5: Organize Training School TS1 – Fiber Basics
