WORKING GROUP 3

Fiber Characterization & Standardization

WG3 coordinates the development, comparison and validation of methods for characterizing the physicochemical and functional properties of extracted fibers, with emphasis on standardization, reproducibility and non-destructive approaches. Through protocol development and inter-laboratory studies, the group aims to establish a shared evidence base that can support bioactivity assessment (WG4), sustainability and regulatory evaluation (WG5), and the exploration of potential product applications (WG6). Where relevant, its outputs may also help identify needs for alignment with applicable standards and regulatory frameworks.

Key Tasks (KT)

KT3.1: Develop standardized physicochemical protocols

KT3.2: Validate non-destructive methods

KT3.3: Conduct inter-laboratory reproducibility studies

Key Activities (KA)

KA3.1: Comparative review of characterization techniques

KA3.2: Validation of new rapid/non-destructive methods

KA3.3: Training School TS2 – Fiber Characterization

KA3.4: Build a protocol database

KA3.5: Workshop WS2 – Quality & Standardization
