WORKING GROUP 2

Fiber Extraction Methods & Optimization

WG2 develops and optimizes green, sustainable, and scalable extraction technologies—including microwave-, ultrasound-assisted extraction, and NADES-based systems—to efficiently process the fiber sources identified by WG1. By ensuring extraction methods are environmentally friendly and commercially feasible, WG2 provides industry-ready fibers for characterization (WG3), bioactivity evaluation (WG4), and product development (WG6), thus serving as a technological backbone for transforming food waste into high-value applications.

Key Tasks (KT)

KT2.1: Develop green extraction methods

KT2.2: Assess scalability for industrial use

Key Activities (KA)

KA2.1: Pilot studies using MAE, UAE, NADES

KA2.2:  Lab-scale scalability trials

KA2.3: Industry collaboration for process refinement

KA2.4: Training School – Fiber Extraction Technologies

KA2.5: Workshop WS1 – Optimization (DoE, RSM, data analysis)
