Watch the First ENFiber, APRISE and ProxIMed Joint Webinar
10 August 2026
The recording of the first joint webinar organised by ENFiber, APRISE and ProxIMed is now available on YouTube.
Held on 10 August 2026, the webinar, “Insects for Food, Feed and Beyond - Circular Economy in Practice” was delivered by Prof. Christos Athanassiou from the University of Thessaly, Greece.
The session examined insect farming from research, production and application perspectives, with a focus on its role in circular food and bioeconomy systems. Prof. Athanassiou discussed yellow mealworm, black soldier fly and other insect species, along with the use of agricultural by-products and food-processing side streams as insect diets.
The webinar also covered differences between insect strains and diets, insect-based animal feed, mass-rearing systems and the use of insect frass as a biofertiliser. Examples included applications of frass in plant development and plant protection, as well as emerging uses of insect-derived products in areas such as biogas, water purification and drug development.
Research presented during the session included work from the Cipromed Project and the Insect Farming Initiative at Kansas State University, linking alternative protein research with resource recovery, sustainable agriculture and new applications for insect production.
This webinar marked the beginning of the joint webinar series organised by ENFiber, APRISE and ProxIMed.
